Beloved Students:
What an exciting time this is for planet Earth! How wonderful to greet you at a time when so many possibilities are breaking forth for the planet, as well as for each of you. This is truly a time of redefinition, and I hope each one of you makes the very most of the opportunities available to you. Are you ready to “rock & roll,” as the saying goes?
How profoundly amazing for each of you to be able to witness the purification process as it unfolds for Earth. Clearly, in times such as these, you can find yourselves “making history” even in a default, or sleepy mode. However, it is much, much better to be fully awake for the journey. These are the times that some of you have waited lifetimes to witness. While each of you clearly has the work of your accomplishing cut out for you, don’t forget to celebrate all your unrecognized and unrealized potential.
Now I do realize that celebrating something you have not as yet observed is a bit of a stretch for some of you. While this skill appears to be easier for some of you than for others, stay focused on the fact that “there is no time like the present” to learn a new skill. I urge each of you to recognize the transformative power that now opens to those who would harvest it.
I hope each of you will enjoy listening to the recorded lecture I offer for May 2010. It spans a wide gap, which includes a number of parts: 1) looking at the interesting earthquake activity you are experiencing, 2) touching on the possibility for some volcanic activity, 3) drawing inspiration and support from Naropa’s life example, and 4) further exploring the regions of responsibility as a spiritual adjunct. How’s that for a single lesson?
In addition to the recorded lecture, I want to put before you in this written note the recognition of just how important your spiritual work is in these highly charged times. It is one thing to observe all the “shaking-up” at a planetary level, quite another to allow the confluences of energy now arising to actually launch you forward, spiritually.
Now I recognize that this may sound a bit grandiose to those who have not as yet learned to use the events arising in the conventional reality to support and fuel the personal journey. In this lesson, I hope to convince you of your utter connectedness to the planetary process.
It is one thing, of course, to understand this proposition as a conceptual exercise, and quite another thing to live your life from full realization of this truth. By “living your life,” I mean actively creating your present moments from this wisdom base. While many folks say they try to create their lives in synch with Earth’s “program,” the simple fact is that most create their lives either from their fears or from their denial of their fears.
As you consider the circumstances that are present in the lives of many people today, I think you will readily observe just what I mean here. Granted, the times at hand do require something significant from those who would negotiate life well. While the current difficulties people face may seem impossible to transcend, know that the tough times do, in fact, contribute to your spiritual strength – if you are available for the lesson, that is.
What part of you is participating in the activity of the planet’s tectonic plate movements? While I know I run the risk of sounding like the proverbial “broken record” here, I simply cannot emphasize too much how important it is for you to align your own creative continuum with that of the planet. (I also recognize that some of you are too young to have first hand knowledge of the “broken record” idiom. Talk to someone older than you for an explanation.)
Simply stated, for those who do not want to be defined by the conditions of the current time, I suggest that you utilize the lessons of the time to transcend the limitations of the time. If that sounds vague, go deeper. You see, there are moments in planetary history when the relationship of person to planet is magnified. You are now in one of those times. Thus, pay attention! I suggest that you find a way to make the very most of the situation, since going oblivious here can exact a pretty high price at a future date.
I do not make these statements to threaten or frighten you. Rather, I speak in this way because if, as a spiritual teacher, I do not, I must bear some responsibility for the relative ignorance of planetary citizens. For those of you who are quick to take offense by letting your ego project meaning upon my words that I may not have intended, go deeper. Recognize that in times when the relationship between person and planet is greatly amplified, so, too, the relative ignorance/enlightened quotient will be amplified.
While such may sound a bit ominous to the less spiritually mature, it can turn out to be something quite positive for those who can harvest the fruits that are now maturing. In truth, when planetary and personal karmas combine, as is now the case, each of you has a remarkable opportunity for purification and transformation.
I think many people would prefer to skip the purification part and just launch into the transformation part. While this is possible, skipping the former to attain the latter can make the attaining the latter much more difficult than it might be, were the former included. In other words, transformation without purification tends to feel somewhat like having a tooth pulled without anesthesia. Certainly, it can be done; but the energy it takes to withstand that transformative process might be more wisely placed in purification.
As you know from prior lessons in 2008 and 2009, purification turns out to be the core of all transformation. Such being true does not invalidate any other part of the process. In fact, as some of you may remember from our tantric work in the spiritual intensives offered in 2006 and 2007, enlightened activity follows purified body, speech and mind.
If we apply this wisdom to the process now unfolding for the planet, surely you can see just how important purification is for Earth. Of course, you should also be realizing that Earth’s purification can only come through the purification of Her sentient beings – that’s you! This is actually great news (even though some of you tend to see your current responsibility to the planet as a heavy burden rather than a privilege bestowed upon you because of your spiritual maturity. Indeed, it is the mature who will accomplish the purification of Earth.
This is truly an important time to call yourself to your highest level of functioning. I say this not only because you need to take the wisdom path, but because your planet is counting on you to take the higher road. If you look to the examples of great beings who before you accomplished their enlightenment, you will see that their desire for liberation from the suffering of samsara was so strong as to literally move the mountains of obscuration that stood between them and the goal.
In the recorded lesson for this month, we will venture into the life of Naropa, since I believe his life example has much to offer for spiritual aspirants today. For those of you who attended the last Peace Convocation, this will be, hopefully, a helpful review of our focus at that time. To those who are touching the power of Naropa’s example for the first time, may you find many points that inspire you and facilitate development of your spiritual awakening and self-determination.
You see, in times such as these, no spiritual teacher (no matter the level of accomplishment mastered) can “give” you the answer. You must raise your own answer – the self-determining force that hides in the core of your being – and you must follow it without reservation into the uttermost regions of your enlightenment.
While I cannot give you the answers, what I can do is to hold the field of enlightenment before you. On a good day, you can possibly just step into it. On other days, perhaps you can at least bump into it, and if that bump is sufficiently jarring, perhaps you can open to receive the full measure of your true nature. There is yet another option, and that is to just join me within that field so that we, together, may offer the field of enlightenment to the whole world. How could we better spend the energy of our beautiful connection?
Know that you have come from love, you are sustained by love, and you shall ultimately return to love. What better gift could you offer to your precious planet than our gift of profound love as She makes Her spiritual transition? Walk in utter and complete kindness.
